NORWICH – A Chenango County grand jury convened in secret earlier this week to determine whom would be indicted for the month of March, and eight were subsequently indicted.
It should be a reminder that all individuals mentioned are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
• Calvin M. Parker, 56, of Otselic was indicted by a grand jury on three felony charges, along with an additional misdemeanor charge.
Parker was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the second degree, a class A-II felony; unlawful manufacture of methamphetamine in the third degree, a class D felony; criminal possession of precursors to methamphetamine, a class E felony; and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, a class A misdemeanor.
The indictment alleges that on Feb. 25, 2016 in the Town of Otselic on County Road 16 and while in concert with another, Parker did possess a mason jar containing the liquid substance of methamphetamine. This substance had an aggregate weight of approximately 20 ounces.
The unlawful manufacture of methamphetamine and criminal possession of precursors of methamphetamine charges allege that Parker did knowingly and with intent to use, possessed sodium hydroxide, sulfuric acid, pseudoephedrine, a bottle, tubing, measuring cup, a funnel and coffee filters to unlawfully manufacture methamphetamine.
The criminal possession of a weapon charge stems from the allegation that Parker was in possession of an Remington 870 shotgun.
