NORWICH – The sixth inning once again spelled doom for the Norwich boys varsity baseball team, as they seemed to unravel at the seams when the late stages of the game was upon them.
After being up 5-0 over S-E as early as the second inning, Norwich seemed to be running away with the inter-Chenango County rivalry.
“We came out really hot like I wanted to after losing to Sus. Valley. And then Sherburne just never quit. So you've gotta tip you hat to a team that never quits,” said Norwich head coach Rich Turnbull.
S-E elected to allow their pitcher, number 29, pitch all seven innings, and even saw him pitch into the one extra inning as game was called after eight.
“We have to be able to hit the guy, we hit off him early and then couldn’t hit him late,” said Turnbull. “I think we got too tense, we have to learn how to win. This was in our wheelhouse and we have to learn how to win these games.”
Heading into the sixth inning the game lead over S-E was extended to a score of 8-2.
