SMITHVILLE – A big name in horror fiction will be in Smithville Flats this weekend for a single-day event meant to pique interest in reading, local arts and a local business.
The Book Peddler, a used bookstore in Smithville carrying thousands of titles in fiction and non-fiction – as well as an array of antiques and collectibles – will host an event this Sunday featuring famed horror writer John Russo, whose 1968 film “Night of the Living Dead” spawned generations of zombie-themed books, movies and television.
Russo’s also credited with the creation of several other horror flicks in his longstanding career as a screenwriter, director and producer, including “The Majorettes,” “Midnight,” and “Santa Claws.”
Phil Montelione, owner of The Book Peddler, said the event aims to ignite interest in local talent and at the same time, give his business a little more exposure.
“Word’s getting around. We’re expecting a large showing,” said Montelione. “I think it’s going to be a great event for the community. And for horror afficionados, this will be the place to be.”
