GREENE – The Greene Trojans varsity softball team went on the road on Friday April 15, to pay a visit to Hancock, a game which they won 6-0.

“They were a little soft-balled out by the end of the week, after playing a whole week of hard nosed softball, but they came through,” said Greene head coach Rick Condon.

The Hancock pitcher notably had a below average speed to her pitch, which coach Condon attested that his players needed some adjustment time to get used to.

This pitching style on the Hancock side had the game knotted through the first three innings at 0-0. However, it was Lydia Howard of Greene who made it home for the first score of the evening, after she stole third and made it home due to an error by the Hancock third baseman.

The pitching of Alex Thompson for the lady Trojans held off Hancock from ever making a comeback. Thompson pitched all seven innings of the game earning 10 strikeouts, with no walks and only four hits on the night.

The defense backed up their pitcher well Condon explained saying, “No errors on defense for us at all, they really played solid defense. They(Hancock) really only had one big hit, the rest were typical earned hits.”
