More than 280 bags of heroin recovered, one arrested

GUILFORD – One man sits in the local jail after authorities said drugs with a street value of more than $7,000 were recovered Wednesday.

The Chenango County Sheriff's Office, in conjunction with the Village of Sidney Police Department conducted a 'no knock' search warrant at 104 Spreutels Lane in the Town of Guilford on April 20, 2016.

The search warrant stemmed from a lengthy investigation conducted by both agencies into the sales of both heroin and cocaine within Chenango County and the Village of Sidney.

Detectives located 280 bags of heroin and more than one ounce of cocaine.

Additionally, authorities said digital scales and packaging materials were recovered from the location.

Following this discovery, authorities arrested Samuel Rivera of Guilford.

Rivera was arraigned in the Town of Norwich Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility in lieu of $10,000 cash bail.

Authorities said that the amount of drugs recovered is "a lot for our area," and that it would make Rivera a main distributor for the area.

The investigation is continuing, and additional arrests are expected.
