NORWICH – Norwich boys Track and Field earned a double win over the visiting Oneonta Yellowjackets this past Tuesday, May 3,
The boys would throttle a depleted Oneonta roster when they earned the win at 110-30; while the girls would also secure the win by a much closer margin at 73-68.
“We have some veterans on the team who are stepping up and always have. They are really showing a great example for younger girls that are coming up,” said Norwich Track Coach Shaun Horan.
The girls side would earn the win as a team over the Yellowjackets in a showing of depth, earning many second and third place finishes to secure the extra points to ultimately gain the 5-point win.
It was Nicole Jeffrey, Emily Shattuck, Savannah Williams, Hailey Collabeli, Katelyn Shaver and Kara Evans who would step up to earn some first place finishes in the meet, having only nine events end in Norwich's favor.
Shattuck would avenge her close loss in the 100 meter dash by defeating the same girl in the 200 meter dash by a mere .1 of a second to run a :28.
Shattuck also tied her seasons best in the long jump when she managed a 16'7” jump.
Nicole Jeffrey stepped up in a huge way for the Tornado to earn wins in the 1500 meter run, 800 meter run, and 3000 meter run. Posting times of 5:38.1, 2:36, and 12:29.3 respectively.
