FENTON – The Norwich varsity tennis team travelled to Chenango Valley last Thursday to take on the Chenango Valley Warriors in a division matchup.
“Due to weather and end of season constraints Norwich played a double header at CV, Norwich remained on track for a showdown with Oneonta,” explained Norwich head coach John Stewart.
Norwich would sweep CV in the first match winning 7-0 and would almost complete the second sweep on the day, but would win 6-1 the second time around.
With these two wins Norwich has helped keep their division title hopes alive.
In preparation for the upcoming match against Oneonta, Norwich showed why they are in the race for the division with solid play all across the board in the first matchup of the day.
Due to the double header, Norwich and CV elected to play a pro-set format, to ensure all matches would be completed in time.
“Norwich dominated in the first match with strong scoring from both singles and doubles. We played a modified scoring system so getting out to a fast start was essential,” said Stewart.
Norwich's Jamison Luke would start things off right in the first singles matchup, defeating Sam Hatton 9-4.
Carlos Ithier would impress at the second singles when he beat James Wyatt at 9-1, while Cameron Edwards would blank his opponent winning 9-0 in the third singles slot.
