GREENE – This past Saturday, May 7, The Greene varsity softball squad hosted their senior day game against Sidney, ultimately losing 14-0.
The senior night game was originally scheduled for Friday but due to weather it had to be rescheduled for Saturday, forcing Greene to ultimately cancel their home tournament that was scheduled to take place the same Saturday.
“The players, fans, and myself were actually looking forward to the day but instead we had to refocus on the league game,” said Greene head coach Rick Condon.
Greene celebrated their seven graduating seniors prior to start of the game against Sidney. The seven seniors recognized were: Sydney Bennett, Lydia Howard, Alex Thompson, Kathleen Hanrahan, Jenna Harrington, Brittany Johns, and Abbey Sands.
“I have seven seniors on the team and each one of them any coach would love to have on their team. They each contribute their own unique styles and make the squad a well rounded team,” said Condon. “They will be missed and working with them this season was a treat. I'm certain they will do great things in their future.”
Despite the celebration, Greene did not enjoy the success they wished to see on the field. Sidney would jump out to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning, followed by another four run inning in the second inning.
