OWEGO – The evenly matched game between the Norwich and Owego varsity softball squads, this past Thursday May 5, would ultimately end in heartbreak for the Tornado, losing 1-0.

Owego would earn the lone run of the game bottom of the sixth inning in stunning fashion.

“It was good game but we came out on the wrong end,” said Norwich head coach Scott Moore.

With runners on second and third for Owego, it was Maddy Lapinski of Owego who stepped up to bat and ultimately knocked in the winning run, sending her teammate Kate Quigley home.

It was third Norwich's third baseman Shannon Moore who scooped the ball and decisively threw to her first baseman Kassidy Seary for the forced out. Seary attempted to get the out and make the play at the home plate when she threw it home to her catcher Jordan Sanford.

“Jordan put the tag on the girl and it was close but the umpire called her safe,” said coach Moore. “A tenth of a second here or there, and that is what made the difference on it.”
