BAINBRIDGE – In the first round of the consolation round of the MAC Mini Tournament Unadilla Valley boys varsity baseball traveled to take on Bainbridge-Guilford on May 9, losing 8-1.
The Bobcats would reach a huge lead to get things started, earning eight runs in the first inning. Oddly enough for BG, these eight points would be the only points that BG would score in the contest, relying on solid pitching and defense to secure the win.
UV would commit two crucial errors on the day which helped contribute to the slew of scoring early on by BG.
It wasn’t until the fifth inning that UV would manage to have a runner in scoring position when Edwin Thomsen would step up to bat. Thomsen ultimately grounded out to second base, but gave his teammate Hunter Christian a chance to make it home for the lone score.
Pitching for UV was Payton Stirone early on before he was pulled in favor of Adam Lamont who threw out seven strikeouts.
BG saw their pitcher, Jones, only give up three walks with the one earned run to go with his eight strikeouts on the day.
UV batters: Matt Dunham 1-3, Hunter Christian 2-2 with a run, and Edwin Thomsen 0-2 with an RBI.
