CANDOR – The Greene varsity softball team battled all year to secure a 10-5 regular season record, earning them a playoff berth with a trip to take on sixth seeded Candor in the first round of Class C Sectional playoffs on May 19, ultimately losing 16-10.
The points were flying off the board right from the get-go for both teams.
Tied up at 9-9 following a high scoring first three innings – where Greene would score two in the first, six in the second, and one in the third; while Candor would score three runs in each of the first innings – it was Candor that would capitalize on some key plays late – and according to the Trojan fans some questionable umpire calls – to secure the six point victory.
“We ended just like we started, up and on our game,” said Greene head coach Rick Condon. “They left no question, and left it all on the field tonight.”
Heading into the fifth inning, Candor would secure an additional four runs, somethings Greene struggled with late to match.
Candor's head coach made a pitching change near the middle of the game which ultimately may have been the best call on the field, as the slower pitching style of the new pitcher seemed to throw off the Trojans at bat attempts.
