SIDNEY – The Norwich Pony League traveled over the hill to take on Sidney on June 16, only to come home after a five inning, mercy-ruled, 12-0 victory.
“Everything just came together, everything worked. When we pitch, hit and work the count like we are capable of, this is what can happen every time,” said Norwich Pony League head coach Nick McCullough.
Norwich would see the lead swing their way early in a big way, as they would begin the first three innings with scores of three, six, and one respectively.
The early ten-run lead over Sidney, put Norwich into a very comfortable lead. Norwich would play error free baseball for the duration of the game, while capitalizing on Sidney's four errors. Norwich would see the closing two runs, making the lead 12-0, come their way in the fifth inning.
Pitching for Norwich was Marcus Cashman for the entire five inning game.
Cashman had ten strikeouts in the five innings, to go with only one hit and one walk allowed.
“He (Cashman) is a stud, that is the only way to put it, he is a stud,” said McCullough.
