NORWICH – The Chenango Hellcats, took to the field next on Tuesday, June 21, when they hosted Johnson City., losing 14-11.
“We ran out of daylight, 14-11 (in favor of JC) going into the bottom of the seventh,” said Hellcats head coach Jason Miller. “We clawed back into it, and even took the lead for a little bit. When they called it, we had bases loaded with no out.”
The game was one for the books, as the The Hellcats and Johnson City battled back and forth in the contest. It was JC who would jump out early over The Hellcats with 7-2 lead after just two innings.
“Conor (Graven-Briggs) hit a dinger and it lit a fire, thats where it all started out,” said coach Miller.
The Hellcats would rally from their 7-2 deficit after just two innings, putting up one in the third, and five in the fourth to take the 8-7 lead.
However, JC would not be denied, as they racked up six runs in the fifth inning, besting The Hellcats three in that inning, to take the lead once again at 13-11.
“We didn’t have a ton of errors but we played safe, letting the ball drop in front of us and stuff like that,” said coach Miller of a timid defensive showing.
Miller's Hellcats would cut their errors back tremendously to just one in the game, while JC would commit six.
