NORWICH – The Chenango Hellcats bumped up a level to play the U20 team of the OCO Elites, out of the Unadilla Valley area on Thursday, June 23.
It was in fact the The OCO Elites who would walk away victorious in the contest when they defeated The Hellcats 6-0.
The Elites wasted no time in gaining the lead –something they would keep the entire game– when they ran home two scores early in the first inning.
The pitching for both sides would remain on par to each other as both looked to find the edge in the game.
Nate Scheer of The Hellcats would stand on the mound for four innings, as he would strikeout seven of the Elites batters, only walking three. The Hellcats would then pull Scheer in favor of Joe Purdy for the remaining three innings. Purdy closed the game out with only one strikeout, while allowing no walks.
The production from Scheer and Purdy was precisely matched by The Elites pitcher, N. Shackleton. Shackleton stood in for The Elites at the mound for the entire seven innings, securing eight strikeouts and only walking three Hellcat batters.
