UNADILLA VALLEY – The Norwich Pony League saw yet another game go their way, and another win added to their now 7-0 record, after they handily defeated Unadilla Valley's Pony League team 12-1, on July 5.
“We're 7-0, and we clinched first place in our division with this win,” said Norwich Pony League head coach Nick McCullough. “For the second straight year we have won our division, and this win is the third time we have beaten UV. We have outscored them 39-7 in those games.”
Pitching for Norwich was supposed to be Marcus Cashman, although due to an unforeseen illness, Mike Trevisani was once again called upon to step to the mound.
“Trevisani volunteered, he said, 'coach I got you'. I asked him if he was sure and he said his arm is good to go, so we went with Mike,” said McCullough.
Mike Trevisani came into the game with the spot start at pitcher for Norwich and recorded a phenomenal 10-strikeout game. However, Trevisani would surrender his first earned run of the season to UV in this contest. Due to having pitched throughout the season and being relied upon against UV, Trevisani will most likely not see action again pitching until the post season.
“It shows you how much of a competitor he really is. Usually I give my players a two/three days notice but he stepped right in,” said McCullough. “It wasn’t his greatest but it wasn’t bad, he pitched very, very well tonight.”
