NORWICH – U.S. Senator Charles Schumer is backing Unison Industries in an effort that will help the company expand and bring more jobs to the Norwich area.
The Senator toured Unison with local elected officials on Monday to see first-hand the design manufacturing process for producing aircraft components. Unison, a subsidiary of GE, is a leading name in the high-end manufacturing of aviation technology, including parts used on civilian and military grade aircrafts.
The company’s presently seeking state and federal grants that will help with new construction, expand manufacturing, and increase the number of jobs at the Norwich plant. According to Schumer, a Unison expansion would be a boon to Upstate manufacturing in the same manner as other Chenango County industries, such as Chobani and the Raymond Corporation.
“When you find a company that is top-notch and is willing to grow, you go to bat for them,” Schumer said after touring Unison’s facility on Monday. “Unison is one of those companies.”
