Sloppy start leads to first Trojan loss

GREENE – The previously undefeated Greene Varsity football team hosted the Owego Indians this past Friday, Sept. 23, in what proved to be a upset loss for the Trojans at home, losing 20-12.

Owego would claim the win, taking full advantage of a slow start jumping up 14-0 early in the first quarter.

Owego's Caleb Marshal would return a blocked punt for the opening score in the game on what was the Trojan opening drive – followed by a Ben Schmidt kick for the extra point.

This slip for the Trojans would quickly be eclipsed with another Indian touchdown by Jyzaih Race from one yard out – followed by a Ben Schmidt kick for the extra point. This touchdown was made possible by a Trojan fumble and turnover.

Already down 14-0, a reeling Greene squad saw senior Coy Austin step up in a huge way for his team. Austin proceeded to find pay-dirt for the first time for the Trojans when he ran a touchdown in from 20 yards out – failed extra point.

Following his touchdown in the first quarter, Austin would snap a pass from the Indians quarterback, Johnson, returning it all the way to the house for a 46 yard interception return touchdown – failed two point conversion pass.
