HOLLAND-PATENT – A divisional rivalry, a post-season berth on the line, and a revitalized but struggling offensively Sherburne-Earlville football team is what was awaiting Holland-Patent when S-E came to play this past Saturday, however, a powerful Golden Knights team overcame S-E 42-13.
The matchup on Oct. 15, quickly got out of hand despite the much anticipated matchup, as Holland-Patent found themselves up 21-0 in the second quarter – three touchdowns from Hunter Richard. Richard would finish on the day, leading everyone in the rushing column with 26 carries for 158 yards and five rushing touchdowns.
Although the Marauder defense struggled to defend the run, they would look to the air on offense – scoring their first touchdown when Gabe Irwin hit Lincoln Owen for an eight yard touchdown – Owen finished with 24 receiving yards and 26 rushing yards.
Down 21-7, the lead was massive but not insurmountable at the halftime break. However, Holland-Patent soon put to rest any idea of a Marauder comeback when they busted out of the half only to score twice in the third quarter – Richard rushing touchdown, and a Nick Herringshaw pass to Austin Benoit for a 40 yard touchdown strike.
