TIOGA – The varsity volleyball team of Bainbridge-Guilford impressed all they played against, while awing the crowds of many; however, their undefeated run in 2016 has come to an abrupt end following their loss over the weekend to Tioga.
B-G held an impressive 15-0 overall record, with an unblemished 10 MAC League record coming into sectionals, as they hoped to emerge victorious with a trip to states. This mission looked to be on track for the lady Bobcats after they emerged from the pool-play round robin round of play on Thursday, Oct. 3.
B-G entered into the semifinal round of the Section IV Class C tournament as the third seed – amid the other three teams, Trumansburg, Tioga, and Watkins Glen.
The Bobcats stormed out of the gates in the semifinal round, dropping previously undefeated Trumansburg 2-0, with set scores of 25-15 and 25-16.
Following their win over Trumansburg, B-G was matched with top-seeded Tioga, to which something the Bobcats had not experienced yet in 2016 happened. Tioga defeated the young Bobcat team, as B-G tasted their first loss on the season, losing 2-0 by scores of 25-17 and 25-18.
However, despite a loss, B-G responded well, securing a second place finish when they crushed Watkins Glen 25-14 and 25-21, to advance to the finals of the Section IV tournament.
