OXFORD – The Oxford Blackhawk boys varsity basketball team won what would be a nail-biter on Thursday night when Otselic Valley gave them a run for their money pouring on the points late for the late game lead change and push. However, the resilient Blackhawks did recover late in the fourth period to claim the final lead and score at 40-39.
In a true tale of two halves, the inter-Chenango County duel between Oxford and Otselic Valley would be decided by a mere one point when all was said and done.
“Oxford had a great start with Viswanthan doing most of his damage in the first half,” said Otselic Valley head coach Jacob Preston “OV struggled to get going on offense in the first half with only 14 points.”
Oxford posted solid periods of scoring – 15 points in the first and 13 points to close out the half – to which Oxford's Adhi Viswanthan did enjoy solid success splitting the Viking defenders to score 13 points in the first half of play. Viswanthan finished as Oxford's leading scorer with 17 total points in the game.
