OXFORD – Due to upstate New York winter weather the Oxford holiday tournament consolation and championship game were postponed – with the postponement come and gone Greene emerged as this year's champion after defeating Walton 42-34.
The championship game, played in Oxford on Saturday, Jan. 7, as Greene jumped out to a huge 12-4 lead over Walton. This lead along with the solid play from the Trojan's leading scorer – McKenna Sergi, along with Emma Smith – Greene managed to take the halftime lead into the locker room at 20-13.
Walton would chip into the lead somewhat heading into the fourth period, as they trailed by just 28-22 at the beginning of the fourth, however, the lady Trojans were able to secure 14 fourth period points to shutdown any notion of a comeback attempt.
Emma Smith who finished the game, second in scoring with 13 points also snagged 11 rebounds – while Sergi finished with a team high 14 points scored in the game.
Smith was subsequently named the Most Valuable Player in the Oxford Holiday Tournament.
• During the consolation game, played earlier that same day, it was Oxford who took the win – their second win of the season – when they defeated Afton by a score of 41-40.
It was Raigen Ehly of Oxford, with her team high 13 points scored in the consolation game, that truly helped lift Oxford to the win, as they claimed a third place finish in their home tournament.
