NEW BERLIN – Coming off a recent loss to Chenango Forks – and playing three games back-to-back-to-back – the Unadilla Valley girls varsity basketball team took full advantage of their Friday night game where they earned a 56-39 win over the Lady Lumberjacks of Deposit.
With a loss to Walton on Jan. 11, followed by a loss to Chenango Forks on the road on Jan. 12 by a score of 64-41 – the lady Storm were abel to stop recover for the Friday night win.
Following the loss to Forks UV head coach Brandi Whitbeck said, “They are good. They don't miss from the three-point line. We played much better in the second half. We pressed and made them have to work a little harder.”
The Forks game last Thursday, ended in a loss for UV but they would see Julia Oglesby lead the charge on scoring in the loss with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
The Friday matchup at home with the lady Jacks saw a different athlete leading the way for the win, this time around it was Shelby Meade who snagged the winning number of 16 points in the game.
At 13-12 following the first period, the game looked to be heading toward a tight finish – as the two squads exchanged blows throughout the period. That is when the lady Storm took over in the game, stifling Deposit for a five point second period, to pull ahead 24-17 at the half.
