AFTON – It was a busy weekend for the Unadilla Valley Storm, as both the boy’s and girl’s varsity basketball teams were in action taking on fellow Chenango County natives Afton. The results were in the favor of the Storm in both of the matchups, with the boy’s triumphing by 30-points, on a final score of 72-42, and the girl’s winning on a scoreline of 55-33.
On the boy’s side, it was all about high-powered offense. The Storm got off to a blistering start, scoring 25 points in the first quarter alone. However, Afton kept up the pressure, and scored 19 points of their own.
It was a different story in the second quarter. UV kept up the offensive assault, but were able to also lock things down on the defensive end, and limited Afton to just a mere two points in the second quarter. The Storm carried a 26-point lead into the halftime break.
After the halftime interval, the game wasn’t much of a contest. The Storm extended their already sizable lead, and would not be caught as they closed out a comfortable victory.
Stellar performances from both Andrew Jackson and Levi Rifanburg, who scored 17 and 18 points each respectively on the night, helped push their team to victory.
