SHERBURNE – Hunter Lane with a long-range snipe, Tyler Bigford staying perfect at 2-2 from the line in the first overtime, coupled with a Hunter Lane field goal and Sam Tuttle going 1-2 from the charity stripe. The double overtime win pulled out all the stops in a thriller, as these small victories for the Sherburne-Earlville boys basketball team piled up to lift them to a stunning 71-70 victory over the visiting Holland-Patent Golden Knights.
Despite the complete team effort in the win – an effort which saw four of the six Marauders who scored in game, earn points in the double overtime periods.
However, none would take the crowd by storm more than the performance that Matt Hull had on Tuesday, Jan. 31. Marauder senior – Hull proved his capabilities down the stretch – with the game on the line and directly following the crazy sequence that was required to reach double overtime. Hull methodically sliced open the Golden Knights for seven of his team high 23 points in the final overtime. With the game on the line, Hull stepped to the line twice – going 3-4 – while also driving for two field goals, as Hull would be the last person to touch the ball in the game, with his seven point overtime run to close the game, capping off a terrific win at home.
