HARPURSVILLE— The Unadilla Valley girls varsity basketball team took to the road to play the Hornets of Harpursville on Monday, January 30, which saw the Storm claim the victory in the tightly contested match-up by a final score of 45-40.
As has been the case with a few of Chenango County’s teams this week free-throws were the difference maker in the contest, as the Storm shot 65% from the charity stripe compared to the visiting Hornets 44%.
“We shot really well from the foul line in the second half and that made a huge difference,” said head coach Brandi Whitbeck.
The first 16 minutes of the game remained in a stand-still with each team recording 18 points in the opening half. A big contributor to the game being knotted up at 18 was the defensive effort of the Hornets - closing out on UV’s sharpshooters from beyond the arc - not allowing any trifectas from finding their home insides the iron for the Storm both in the first and second halves.
