OTSELIC VALLEY – The Otselic Valley boy’s varsity basketball team's struggles continued as of late, as they suffered two more consecutive losses this past week.

In the first game, which took place on Monday, Jan. 30, the Vikings suffered a tough defeat to DeRuyter on a final score of 61-51.

The action was end to end in the first quarter, with both teams trading buckets. DeRuyter took the smallest of leads going into the second. That’s where it all fell apart for OV. Their defense gave up 20 points, while the offense put up just nine, leaving them with a 12-point disadvantage at the half.

The Vikings fought valiantly to try and regain some points, but were ultimately never able to catch their opponents, and succumbed to the 10-point defeat.

“Our season has been a struggle this year, and we have yet to win a game,” said Otselic Valley head coach Jacob Preston following his side’s loss. “However, my players never gave up. They played with heart and with respect for the game.”

Jordan Baerga had another monster game, as he was the game high scorer, knocking down 21 points, as well as adding 11 rebounds. Tanner Costa had 12 points and four assists in the loss.
