BAINBRIDGE – It’s been seven years since Dave Gorton last took his Trojan girl’s to the Section IV Class C semifinals. Unfortunately, they will have to wait yet another year to end the drought. The Greene girl’s succumbed to defeat in the quarterfinals yet again, this time at the hands of the Bainbridge-Guilford Bobcats, last Friday, Feb. 24.
Situated just 16 miles apart, it always proves to be a heated affair when the local rivalry between the Trojans and the Bobcats face off, and this time, things were no different.
It took a heroic effort from B-G star Abigail Selfridge to separate the sides. Selfridge accounted for 10 of the Bobcats 13 points in the final eight minutes to ensure that her side advanced to the semifinals.
In what was a grueling contest, matters were closely contested throughout. Every time that one team seemed to have the upper hand, the other would charge right back into the action. After the opening quarter, B-G held the slimmest of leads outscoring the Trojans 11-10.
The battle for supremacy continued in the second quarter, as both sides notched 13 points apiece. B-G took a one-point lead into the interval at 24-23.
Both teams gave it their all in the second half, and after the third quarter, the game was all tied up, at 37 points apiece.
