OXFORD – With a previous win over Delhi at 14-4, the Oxford softball team advanced to the finals of the 9-12 bracket of the MAC league tournament, where a crafty Walton team handed them a loss at 8-6.
The bats were there, the runs were not. Oxford managed to snag 10 hits in their losing efforts on Monday, failing to find a run until the fourth inning.
Luckily for Oxford, the early goings in the game, saw Walton only score once in the third. However, when the Oxford team got hot, so did Walton. The Walton Warriors hammered in four runs in the top of the fifth inning – breaking the tied game which was at 1-1.
The seventh inning handed Oxford a six-run deficit, a lofty amount of runs to make up with just one inning to play.
The lady Blackhawks scored five runs in their failed comeback attempt – two in the sixth, three in the seventh.
Allison Beckwith would be the one to get the ball rolling for Oxford when she slammed a single to reach the base and sending Kylie Roys home for the score. Rachel Tefft returned the favor to Beckwth when she hit a fly ball – reaching first on an error – sending Beckwith home. The score then stood at 7-3, in favor of Walton.
