COOPERSTOWN – On Tuesday June 13, the Chenango Hellcats Legion baseball team traveled to the birthplace of baseball to play Cooperstown’s Legion squad.
The home team put runs on the board in a hurry, Cooperstown, having went scoreless after the first inning, exploded for five runs in the bottom half of the second. The Hellcats, desperate to keep the game close in the early frame tacked on four more to cut the Cooperstown lead to one.
The Hellcats managed to tie the game in the fourth inning, before claiming the lead for good in the top of the sixth inning. But wait, there’s more. As the Hellcats clung to a 7-6 lead entering the top of the final inning, the baseball boys from Chenango doubled their score, scoring seven runs in the final inning all while blanking their opponent in the bottom half of the seventh to claim the 14-6 victory.
