Conlon’s Work Helps Ponies Avoid Brooms, 3-1
Published: July 24th, 2017

HARRISBURG, PA – PJ Conlon pitched into the seventh inning and supported his own cause with an RBI single in the Binghamton Rumble Ponies’ 3-1 win over the Harrisburg Senators on Sunday afternoon at FNB Field. The Rumble Ponies snapped a four-game skid and staved off the Senators bid for a sweep with the series finale victory.

Following three quiet innings, Champ Stuart opened the fourth with an infield single short. The Ponies outfielder swiped his league-leading 29th base of the season and advanced to third on a single by Luis Guillorme. Kevin Taylor brought him in by bouncing out to second base.

Binghamton added to their lead in the seventh. Following a double by Kevin Kaczmarski, LJ Mazzilli zipped an RBI single into right. Three batters later, Conlon pushed the Ponies to 3-0 lead by depositing a run-producing single into center.

On the mound, Conlon’s cleanest inning was his perfect, twelve-pitch first. After the clean frame, the southpaw was forced to side-step a hit in each of his next five innings. He kept the Senators off the board during the stretch and only allowed one runner to advance past first base.

Harrisburg ended Conlon’s roll in the seventh by putting two aboard and forcing Luis Rojas to summon Tim Peterson. Stephen Perez welcomed the righty by squeaking an RBI single into right. With help from a diving stop by Mazzilli at second, Peterson closed the inning without any further damage.

Peterson returned with a perfect eighth and Cory Burns claimed his 12th save with a spotless ninth inning.
