Tops teams with Public Health to prevent lead poisoning

NORWICH – With an aim to “get the lead out,” the Chenango County Public Health Department is teaming up with Tops supermarket to teach about the link between diet and lead poisoning.

For the summer months, Public Health is sponsoring a “lead teaching tour” where eligible participants (those with a child age six or less) explore Tops in search of foods that offset the risks of lead.

“Many people don’t realize foods rich in calcium, iron, and vitamin C can help prevent lead poisoning,” explained Barbara Ryan, lead education coordinator for Public Health.
