SHERBURNE – Local and state legislators recently got a first-hand glimpse of the issues facing Chenango’s agriculture industry.
The Chenango County Agriculture and Farmland Protection Board hosted its seventh annual Ag Tour for Legislators last month, giving policy makers insight about the ebb and flow of the local ag trade.
The goal, explained tour coordinator Shane Butler, is to spotlight Chenango’s leading industry of agriculture while addressing the big concerns of ag producers. The biggest concern being the number of state and federal regulations hindering farmers, according to many producers.
“The tour went well this year,” Butler said, noting the event typically draws upwards of 50 attendees every year.
