MOUNT MARKHAM – For the second weekend in a row, the Lady Marauders played in a tournament all weekend long. This tournament had a different end result in the Mount Markham Optimist Tournament.
Sherburne-Earlville would kick off tournament action Friday, September 8 against Cherry Valley-Springfield. Marauders' Amberlyn Robertson would post a goal in the first half of the game.
CV-S would answer in the second half with a goal of their own to tie the contest a one goal apiece. The score would remain that way through the end of regulation and two 10 minute overtimes.
Coming down to penalty kicks, Cherry Valley-Springfield would score the win and move on to the championship game after making three of their five attempts. Sherburne-Earlville would only be able to find the back of the net on two of five attempts.
The following day, S-E battled host team Mount Markham in another hard fought game for third and fourth place of the tournament.
Again jumping out the early lead, the Marauders would score a goal in the first half. They wouldn't end the scoring there as S-E would tack on another two goals in the second half. Mount Markham would make a push in the second half scoring two of their own goals but it wouldn't be enough for the comeback as the Marauders would take the victory and third place in the tournament.
