Norwich Soccer claims bragging rights for second year

GREENE – Norwich shot the ball 21 times on goal in their victory over Oxford to grab a first place finish in the Greene Varsity Girls Soccer Tournament.

Despite what the stats show, the Lady Blackhawks played an evenly match game against the Lady Tornado until the second half.

The Purple Tornado started the game flat as Oxford jumped to an early lead with a goal from Emily Barrows at the 18:10 mark in the first half.

Norwich's Sydney Coggins continued her stand-out ways, sending a ball to teammate Emily Shattuck at 35:10, helping the Tornado to recover the Oxford lead.

The two teams went into the half tied 1-1.

Coming out from the intermission, Norwich opened up target practice on Oxford's keeper Lexi Kohlhepp. Kohlhepp stood strong, having an oustanding showing, doing whatever she needed to allow no goals into the net. The Lady Tornado fired several shots at Kohlhepp before she allowed one to pass her.

A mishap by the defense of Oxford allowed a goal for Norwich, making the score 2-1.

Just a few minutes later, Coggins tacked on a goal of her own, giving Norwich a score of 3-1.

The final goal came from a bad touch by Oxford as they were trying to clear it out of the defensive half and the ball took a bad bounce finding its own way into the net.
