NORWICH – Chenango Forks football showed why they are ranked number two in New York State, as they handed Norwich their second loss of the season with ease in a 49-7 gashing in front of the Tornado fans on what was to be a joyous and celebrated senior night on Friday, October 6.
Norwich went to one of their rushing leaders, Drew Walsh, on their first three plays of the game but the Devils studied the game film from the week prior. Walsh gained seven yards on third down before Forks tackled him, forcing the first of many punts by Rifanburg.
The Norwich defense looked to be in sync, playing with force on their opponents first drive, stalling the Blue Devils following a Grant Wessels’ sack for 11 yards. Forks punted the ball away out of bounds to the Norwich 34.
Taking over at 7:50 in the first quarter, Forks complied a drive that lasted a total of 5:14 and ended with a Matt McDonald rush from two yards out to give themselves the early 7-0 lead.
Tornado Zach Mills, broke out for 30 yards down field to get the ball into Devils defensive half on second down, to give Norwich their first, first-down of the contest.
