B-G Bobcats Take Second At Windsor Tournament

WINDSOR – This past weekend saw the mighty Bainbridge-Guilford Bobcat volleyball squad head down to Black Knight territory for a day-long tournament against some of the areas premiere teams.

“Lots of intense play all day long, with very little down time,” said Bainbridge-Guilford head coach Tami Selfridge. “Pool play at the Windsor tournament is really great, but very demanding.”

Bainbridge-Guilford is in full on prepare for the postseason mode – hoping to make a late season push and to sharpen their play as they approach the latter part of the 2017 season.

In pool play on October 7, B-G played six different teams, for a combined score of 6-6. This 6-6 record would land B-G in the top bracket with a fourth seed.

Pool play results saw B-G split against Vestal at 25-16 and 13-25; gain a 2-0 win against Maine-Endwell at 25-14 and 25-21; fall to top-seeded Owego at 0-2 at 17-25 and 16-25; before splitting with Windsor, Homer, and Binghamton – at 25-20 and 19-25, 25-18 and 22-25, and 13-25 and 25-23, respectively.

Advancing to the semifinals, the Bobcats were faced with an opponent who had just cruised to two wins over them, the Owego Indians.

“They are a really great team and my girls pulled together and worked hard to beat them,” said coach Selfridge of the upset win in the semifinals.

Bainbridge-Guilford snagged the upset win over Owego by a set score of 25-19 – catapulting them into the finals of the Windsor tournament.
