WHITNEY POINT – The reigning Class C New York State and Section IV champions – the Whitney Point Eagles were held at home to just a 2-0 win over Greene.
“We [Greene] didn’t play very well, made a lot of fouls with our feet,” said Greene head coach Christine McCabe, despite the close score.
To be the best, you have to beat the best – that is what Greene field hockey is trying to accomplish in 2017. Therefore, a 2-0 score to the defending Class C state champions is a nice consolation prize. Coach McCabe and her players understand that they must take that next step and steal a win. Notably, the Trojans finished in 2016 as a Class C Section IV Semi-finalist – a mark they hope to improve in 2017.
The difference in the outcome of the game came down to opportunities – as Whitney Point worked their way to having 19 shots and 24 corners. Greene saw just four shots on goal and two corners, a substantial difference.
