SIDNEY – The Warriors of Sidney chipped away at Afton’s 11-run lead in their last at-bats of the game Monday, but Afton was able to get the final out needed to put away Sidney in a 12-10 win on the road.

Sidney scored nine runs in the comeback attempt of the seventh inning but Matt Hoskins fly-out to first baseman, Vincent Caiati, sealed the win for Afton.

Afton got on the board in the second inning when Brady Buttice hit into a fielder’s choice, scoring Antonio Derrigo. Buttice scored later in the frame along with teammate Zach Alford, who scored on a wild pitch, giving the Crimson Knights a 4-0 lead.

Afton put up six additional runs in the fifth inning, taking 10-1 advantage.

The Warriors big inning was driven by many singles and walks drawn by their batters.

Colin Nabinger earned the victory for the Crimson Knights. Nabinger started the game on the mound surrendering one run on seven hits six and a third innings of work. Caiati came on in relief for the bottom seventh and lasted threw two-thirds of an inning out of the bullpen.

Nabinger came back in to finished the game, earning the save. He tallied 11 strikeouts on the rubber.

The Crimson Knights host Unadilla Valley on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
