NORWICH – A Norwich man who was charged with felony assault Sunday, for allegedly striking his daughter on the head, is now part of a possible homicide investigation after the 18-month-old died last night at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse.
According to court records, the victim, one-year-old Delaney Ellsworth, was struck on her face by her father, 28-year-old Devan Ellsworth at about 6 p.m., Sunday, at their apartment at 58 Henry Street in Norwich.
Ellsworth, was charged with second-degree assault, a class D felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor, following the incident.
"The said defendant did knowingly strike the victim, Delaney Ellsworth, on or about the face, and did cause a head injury, leading to a subdural hematoma," stated city court documents.
