WHITNEY POINT – Greene opened their season with a tough test against Whitney Point and came out the 2-1 winners over the defending state championship Eagles.
“It was a surreal feeling for us,” said Greene head coach Christine Battaglini. “We have been waiting for this moment for a long time.”
Battaglini stated while it was very exciting, the players were surprised. “We were prepared for this game and it showed."
The Lady Trojans found the net in the first half, just three minutes into the game when Olivia Kennedy fired a shot past Eagles' keeper Emma Morgan.
Later in the half, Jess Unkel found teammate Clarie Moxley for the second goal of the game with seven minutes remaining in the first half to send her team into the intermission.
