OTEGO – The Lady Storm of Unadilla Valley knocked off the undefeated Unatego Spartans 1-0 in overtime Friday afternoon, depsite Unatego taking 17 more shots than the Storm.
In the second period of the overtime sessions, UV’s Shelby Meade found Paige Catena who then found Cearah DaCostaFaro. DaCostaFaro booted the game winner into the back of the net as 2:34 showed on the clock.
The Storm’s Gaby Potter, Kirsten White, Alicia Grant and Melinda Keach helped defend off any last chance scoring by the Spartans, allowing Unadilla Valley to pull off the upset win. UV head coach Jeanine Potter said their efforts on defense earlier in the game helped secure the big MAC league win.
Meegan White’s performance in the goal was as important and noteworthy as the defense. She stopped 18 saves during the contest to record the shutout for her team.
Unadilla Valley takes on Bainbridge-Guilford at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. The two teams have played against each other twice this season with the Storm coming out on top 2-1 in both games.
