WALTON – The Greene boys soccer team won back-to-back games Friday and Saturday to win their seven straight game since their early season loss to non-league opponent Athens.
Saturday morning, the Trojans traveled to Walton and came home 1-0 victors after 80 minutes of play.
The contest was tied 0-0 at the end of the first half and continued until the McCumiskey brothers had a connection on the field to put up the first and only goal scored.
River McCumiskey found brother Scout and Scout rifled a shot past Walton keeper Kaiden Verold.
Greene controlled the tempo for most of the game as Walton was only able to get two shots off for the entire game.
One day earlier, the Trojans defeated Delhi on the road with a final of 2-0.
Greene’s goalie Nick Shoemaker made six saves in the contest, giving him his first of two back-to-back shutouts over the weekend.
Bradley Fat was awarded a penalty kick and finished his free attempt to score the first goal of two for the Trojans.
In the second half, Greene’s Brandon Whitaker put one past the Delhi goalkeeper to secure the victory for his team.
The Trojans improve to 8-1 overall on the season and will look to make it eight in a row when they host Afton/Harpursville on Tuesday, October 2.
