The playoff picture has been set for boys and girls soccer teams as well as field hockey programs throughout the county with the first round for some teams starting Tuesday afternoon. Other fall sports still have yet to be determined while others have held their sectional championships. 

Soccer

The Greene Trojans boys soccer team, currently ranked sixth in the state, received a two seed and will see a bye in the first round of the Class C Section IV tournament. Last year, the Trojans were handed a loss to Lansing, the eventual 2017 Class C champions. In the 2018, the two teams are on the opposite side of the bracket, setting up a potential rematch in the finals.

Greene will see the winner of Southern Cayuga and Groton in the quarterfinals, a game that they will host on Friday.

Also in the Class C bracket are the Storm from Unadilla Valley. UV was dealt an eight seed and will see No. 9 Odessa-Montour on their home field Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. The winner of the eight-nine matchup will move on to face top-seed Lansing on Friday.

In the Section III Class C bracket, the 16-seed Otselic Valley Vikings will travel to top-seeded Cooperstown at 3 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon. The Vikings see their first playoff berth in a few years and will look to pull off the upset of the Class C tournament as the underdogs. If the OV does win, they will move on to face the winner of Bishop Ludden/Waterville.

Sherburne-Earlville boys soccer starts their second consecutive playoff journey in Westhill on Wednesday. After a year in Class C, the Marauders return to Class B in Section II. Westhill currently holds a record of 11-3-1 and is the heavy favorite in the matchup. If S-E upsets Westhill, the Marauders could see either South Jefferson or conference foe Adirondack.

Bainbridge-Guilford and Unadilla Valley are the two girls soccer programs in Chenango County to receive a playoff berth this season.

Ironically, the two teams will see each other for the fourth time this season. UV had won all three games played so far between the Bobcats and the Storm and will look to claim the fourth victory on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.

Field Hockey

The winner will take on Unatego, the No. 2 seed of the Section IV Class C tournament. If the Storm is able to move on, they will set up a rematch of the recently played Midstate Athletic Conference Championship game. Unatego pulled off the comeback win in the second meeting between the Spartans and Unadilla Valley this year. The series is tied at 1-1 as UV took the first game in overtime.

The Crimson Knight field hockey team is already in the finals of the Section IV Class B tournament and will face Owego Free Academy on October 27. The time is yet to be announced for the game in Vestal but Afton will be considered the home team on the scoreboard as they hold the No. 1 seed.

In Class C, the Lady Trojans were awarded the second seed of the bracket and will host Sidney at 5 p.m. Thursday. All team received a first round bye in the bracket and will move onto the quarterfinals of the tournament. If the Trojans win, they could potentially see Whitney Point for the fourth time this season. Greene holds the lead in the season series, winning two of the three games but the Eagles are hungry for the fifth straight sectional title.

In Section III Class B, Sherburne-Earlville secured a playoff berth and square off against the No. Seed Clinton. The two have met once this season with the higher seed winning the game 5-0. The Marauders ended their season with a record of 7-8-1, five of their wins coming in the last eight games.

Other fall sports

Volleyball will hold their seeding meeting on Wednesday, October 24 and will start playoffs the following week. Football will settle their seeds after this final week of games.

While golf has finished for the season, the sectional tournament will be held in the spring time. Those individual golfers who qualified will play in 2019 for a sectional championship with a chance at the state title a weekend after.

Girls tennis held their Section IV championship and will host the New York State Qualifier later this week.

Cross Country will move onto their Section IV meet, which will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 23.
