NORWICH – This Sunday the City of Norwich will honor veterans with a parade, a ceremony, and a newly repaired flagpole in East Park.
The parade will begin at 10:15 a.m. on Sunday, November 11, with individuals meeting behind Norwich's Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) building. Step-off for the parade will be at 10:40 a.m., and it will travel West on East Main Street until the parade reaches East Park.
VFW Post 2782 Commander Joe Santiago spoke on the upcoming event and said, "This year we're really trying to accomplish something special."
Santiago said this year the wreaths used in the honoring ceremony will be transported by two active duty veterans and a horse drawn carriage. He said the wreaths will be held in place by a casket flag, and following the ceremony the VFW will provide light refreshments at their headquarters.
