NORWICH – The Norwich Boys Basketball Booster Club invites you to join them on Friday, November 23 as they introduce the 2018-2019 Purple Tornado Boys Varsity and Junior Varsity teams for their third annual “Meet the Players” night.
At 5:30 p.m., the doors will open for all to grab a seat in the Norwich High School gymnasium and have the first chance to meet this year’s rosters starting at 6 p.m.
Following the introductions, the Purple Tornado basketball players will compete in the Shooting Relay Competition and the three point contest.
The shooting relay is a contest to see how fast a team can make a layup, a foul shot, a three pointer and a half court shot. The three point contest is where a team of two players try to make the most three pointers in a limited amount of time.
Tre Bonham and Jordan Vinal are back-to-back champions will be looking for a three-peat in the three points contest this year. A new winner for the shooting relay competition is set to be crowned Friday.
At the conclusion of the player events, the NHS Boys Basketball players of the past will take to the court for the yearly alumni game.
One former Tornado that is already signed up to play is Richie Bonnie, 2010 graduate of Norwich. Bonnie continued his basketball career in college as a member of the Hobart Men’s team. Making an impact for the Statemen throughout his four years. In 2014, Bonnie was the recipient of the Jostens Trophy, the award given to Division-III’s Most Outstanding Player.

Cost to play in the game is $25 and each player receives an Alumni shirt. As well as the events, there will be a 50/50 raffle drawing and a concession stand will be available for refreshments.
“In the second year of hosting this event, the community support has been overwhelming,” said John Vinal, Norwich Boys Basketball booster club President. “Each year, we have had a great turnout and the booster’s look hope everyone will come out to meet the 2018-2019 team while have a great time watching all of the events that will take place.”
Admission into the event is $2 for adults, $1 for students. Children 12 and under are free. The event is open to all. A free Norwich Basketball seat cushion will be handed out to adults with their paid admission but only while supplies last. Stop down after your Black Friday shopping to enjoy some fun basketball and get to know the players you’ll see on the Jack Jones court this season.
