SHERBURNE – The Lady Marauders of Sherburne-Earlville started their ‘18-’19 basketball campaign off with a win Wednesday, taking down the visiting Herkimer Magicians 34-16.
The first game of the season jitters were apparent by both teams to start but the Marauders found their rhythm early in the first and carried it through the eight minutes of play as they went on a 12-3. Kaitlyn Furner and Tessa Cole paced S-E, combining for eight of the teams 12 first stanza points.
The Magicians outscored the host Marauders 6-4 in the second quarter, but it was all Marauders in the second half as they shut down Herkimer and allowed just seven points.
Sherburne-Earlville’ created several offensive opportunities throughout the from steals on the defensive end of the floor throughout the game but found their jumper shots falling in the third quarter as they tallied 14 out of the halftime break.
Cole led the Marauders with 10 while Furner finished right behind her with nine points. MacKenzie Holmes contributed five points from the post in the win.
