OXFORD – Jason Davis of the Blackhawks boys basketball team poured in 24 points and pulled down 20 rebounds in the season opener for Oxford against the Chenango Valley Warriors. However, a half court buzzer-beater by CV’s Travis Kraack before the intermission provided the visiting team with a momentum swing that carried the Warriors to a 62-50 win over the home Blackhawks.

Oxford took a 15-6 lead after the first quarter behind Davis’ nine points, a Jacob Murrer 3-pointer and Matt Roach’s made shot from beyond the arc.

The Blackhawks attempted to make a long pass for a chance to score with two seconds left on the clock before half, but Kraack stole the ball and launched to a shot that banked off the backboard and went through the net to close the Oxford lead down to two.

Out of the break is when Kraack and the Warriors took over as they outscored the home team 23-10 Kraack tallied eight points in the quarter to lead Chenango Valley but three different Warriors knocked down shots from long range to help extend their lead.

In the final eight minutes of play, CV’s defense allowed just one Oxford basket from the floor. The rest of the Blackhawks points came from Davis and C.J. Smith at the free throw line. Both Davis (10-for-10) and Smith (4-for-4) shot a perfect percentage from the foul line throughout the game.
