SHERBURNE – A 20 point fourth quarter by the Cooperstown Hawkeyes led them to the 63-54 victory over tournament host Sherburne-Earlville on Saturday night. Cooperstown’s Jack Lambert paced his team over the first 24 minutes of play, tallying 26 of his 29 points.
While the Marauders found a way to shut down Lambert in the final quarter, Ryan Lansing, Calvin Sandler and Noah Lifgren were big from the foul line as the three led the Hawkeyes to the win. Cooperstown shot 9-for-12 from charity stripe with Lifgren going 6-for-8 himself.
Sherburne-Earlville held a one point margin at the end of the first half. Battling in the third quarter, the two teams went back and forth until the Hawkeyes took the one point lead at the end of the stanza.
In the fourth, Sandler hit the opening bucket to extend his team’s edge to three points. S-E’s Hunter Lane answered with back-to-back and-1 plays, giving the advantage back to the host Marauders. Lansing hit a deep three ball to give Cooperstown the lead for good.
Lifgren added a basket from the floor to give him eight points in the quarter and the game while Sandler finished with 12 for the contest. Lansing chipped in 10 and Lambert had the team-high with his point total.
The Marauders were led by Lane, who ended the night with a game-high 31 points. Gabe Irwin added 10 while Robert Hill tallied seven in the loss.
