COOPERSTOWN – With three seconds left in the game, Cooperstown’s John Kennedy went to the foul line trying to seal the deal against the Section IV Class C defending champion Unadilla Valley Storm.

Kennedy missed his attempt, leaving a last second chance for the Storm to pull off the win. UV, however, was unable to get a clean look and the Hawkeyes earned a 48-45 victory Tuesday night.

Unadilla Valley held a three point lead at the halftime break but a 20-9 run in the third helped Cooperstown gain the lead for good. The Storm limited the Hawkeyes to just five points in the final eight minute stretch and were able to pull within two points with two minutes remaining.

UV’s defense put the clamps on Cooperstown’s stud Jack Lambert, allowing him to a season low six points for the game but the Storm struggled to get a rhythm on the offensive end.

Andrew Jackson of Unadilla Valley finished with 18 of his game-high 28 points from behind the 3-point line, nearly outscoring the Hawkeyes from long-range. Cooperstown hit seven shots from beyond the arc for 21 of their team’s 48 points.

Levi Rifanburg added eight points for the Storm while teammate Wyatt Grey contributed five. Caleb Parker chipped in four points in the tough battle.
