SHERBURNE – With 10.1 seconds left in the third quarter, Sherburne-Earlville’s Robert Hill took the ball the length of the floor and finished with a two-handed slam dunk. Hill’s highlight play gave the host Marauders a momentum swing in their favor as they headed into the final quarter.
S-E then went on a 19 point run in the fourth to take the 66-59 win over the visiting Phoenix Firebirds.
The Marauders opened up the contest with a 24 point first quarter, led by Gabe Irwin and Hunter Lane’s eight points in the eight minute stretch.
S-E led after the first, 24-18 but it was the two middle quarters that gave the Firebirds the 48-47 lead by the end of the third.
In the fourth, Sherburne-Earlville used a 3-pointer by Irwin to take the lead but Phoenix answered with a three of their own by Adam Hahn.
As the clock showed 5:02, Lane hit a shot from beyond the arc to take the lead back. 20 seconds later, the Firebirds’ Dominck DeMong made a basket to tie it.
